Be a Peacemaker

By |2020-08-20T14:29:15-04:00August 20th, 2020|Uncategorized|

If you've noticed, we've been a little "parenting" heavy lately. Yes, we usually show up to talk about how the Bible ties into our work... but we also cannot and will not neglect the very real and current needs of working women. We're here for the Spirit-led conversations, not for our brand or strategic algorithms, amen? And as a community, parenting is big piece of where our heads and hearts are right now. You too? Yesterday, Somer Phoebus taught part 2 of How to Not Idolize Your Kids and got super practical. One of our top takeaways? Remember the power in being a peacemaker. There is absolutely a time to step in and put your foot down, but sometimes, you can diffuse a situation with love and peace before it gets to discipline and rebuke...and you just might just be surprised at the effect it can have on that little one or big kid that's on the receiving end. 5 Ways to Fight Against Digital Addiction

By |2020-07-30T15:02:40-04:00July 30th, 2020|Uncategorized|

When we planned Q2 back at the beginning of 2020, when quarantines were a thing of the past and social distancing was unheard of, we originally planned a digital detox for the month of April. [I know - it made us laugh too. Can you imagine us attempting to push through with our original plan when the majority of our entire lives -- from church to our jobs to our kids school -- went digital?!] So here we are, with the world slowly beginning to open back up in phases, after basically three months of living our lives at home and online. If there was ever a time to have an excuse for being overly digitally dependent, it's now! But rather than excuse some of the bad habits we've picked up, it's time to proactively fight against digital addiction. So each Friday in July, we've been sharing one tip on our social media channels (Follow us on Instagram and Facebook) if you're not already connected to us!) Here are all five tips we've shared so far: Need a few more? Inside swHw membership, we've put together a [...]

Teach Us To Pray

By |2020-07-15T14:57:48-04:00July 15th, 2020|Uncategorized|

In class this week, Somer Phoebus opened up with a simple question for us:  What is prayer?  The chat tab lit up almost in unison with: "talking to God."  That was not a surprise, seeing how most believers grew up hearing that definition of prayer. And it's not wrong. But it's also not 100% right. We know that because when one of the disciples asked Jesus to teach him how to pray, Jesus didn't respond with, "We're doing it right now. What's up?" Jesus responded with The Lord's Prayer (Luke 11:1-4 + Matthew 6:9-13).  So as we walked through The Lord's Prayer, Somer simplified and made clear exactly what it looks like to pray the way Jesus himself taught His disciples to pray.  Here's the simple [but powerful] breakdown:  Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name Father, show us Who you are. Make Yourself known to us in the most real way. Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven I choose your way! Make things right in our world. Bring Heaven down. Give us each day our daily bread Sustain us with exactly what we need for today. No more, no [...]

a swHw Ambition Check

By |2020-07-09T09:51:33-04:00July 9th, 2020|Uncategorized|

In class this week, Michelle Myers broke down the difference between selfish ambition and Kingdom ambition with a deep dive into God’s Word. She also busted the myth of having to wait to be ambitious. Jesus said -- "the harvest is plentiful (aka - the work is ready!) but the workers are few" (Matthew 9:37). If we find ourselves looking for something to do, we're likely waiting for the wrong work. King David had to wait 15-20 years to become king, but he got to work right away -- killing Goliath, winning battles, serving Saul, etc. But first, she gave us this little quiz, because it's hard to learn and grow if we don't first evaluate. Is it difficult for you to celebrate others? Is it tough for you to turn your brain off/rest/slow down? Do you struggle to listen to others? Do you try to do God’s work without God? Do you frequently dream of getting your “big break?” Do you often pursue something new after watching someone have success? Do you equate your purpose in life with your achievements? . . Count your # of yes’s to [...]

What Kind of Goal-Setter Are You?

By |2020-06-30T20:55:00-04:00June 17th, 2020|Uncategorized|

Turns out, most of us are probably making goal-setting harder than we should. Not only that -- we may be setting the wrong goals completely. But before we can simplify, we must evaluate. The kind of goals you should be setting depends on the kind of goal-setter you are. Take our quiz to find out! Directions: Tally the number of 1's and 2's you get from the following eight questions. Scoring details below. (But take the quiz first!) With conflict, I: Avoid it. Enjoy it. When people share their struggles, I: Listen Try to fix it When it comes to motivation: I don't really know what motivates me. I know exactly what motivates me. If my husband loads the dishwasher wrong, I: Quietly rearrange it Loudly rearrange it while giving a TedTalk on how to do it correctly If someone cuts me off in traffic, I: Ignore Honk, yell, scream, etc. For me: Patience is easy. Waiting is a form of torture. When it comes to friendship: I struggle with deep friendships (I tend to let people talk over me) I struggle with new friendships (I get frustrated with surface level + want to go deep) If I'm going [...]
