Confidence vs. Pride

By |2020-05-08T15:47:09-04:00August 25th, 2016|Faith|

First of all, let’s establish that these are 2 very different things that somehow often get confused with one another. Secondly, is it possible to exemplify confidence without being prideful? Yes! When your hope is in Christ, you gain confidence! When your hope is in YOU, you will ALWAYS struggle with pride. But if pride is an issue for us, how do we deal with that issue and put that sin to death? Prayer! Big, messy, embarrassing, fall on your face before your heavenly Father prayer! We have to beg God to let us understand (as much as our human minds can) the depths Jesus went to to save us, leaving HEAVEN to come to earth in human form, then living a sinless life, and finally dying a horrendous death on the cross. But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8 All for me. All so that I could live with Him for eternity. All because He LOVES me. For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. Luke 19:10 If we can get even a glimpse of this [...]

Are You a Social Media Thief?

By |2020-05-08T15:47:20-04:00August 18th, 2016|Business, Faith, Faith-Based Leadership|

As a entrepreneur in the creative space and as an author, plagiarism is something I deal with on a daily basis. Yes, even though 98% of what I put out there would have to be stolen by another person who claims Christ, it’s still an issue. Now, I refuse to live my life in a way that seeks to chase down every person who steals my ideas, words or creative work, so this is my heartfelt attempt to speak out against plagiarism as a whole from a Biblical perspective. But first, what exactly is plagiarism? Well, it used to be simply a copyright violation. Before the Internet, Pinterest and social media, it was much more difficult to plagiarize because before you could publish something, there were copyright filters to ensure plagiarism didn’t happen. But you don’t have to have a publisher to mass produce your thoughts anymore. All you need are a few social media accounts and fancy apps on your phone to steal someone else’s work and in the minds of most, be “undetected.” And most don’t even think it’s wrong. Almost daily on my clothing line’s social media page, someone will tag their friend in one of [...]

What Good Customer Service & Your Witness Have in Common

By |2020-05-08T15:47:40-04:00August 4th, 2016|Business, Faith|

Have you ever experienced horrible customer service? I’m betting that you have, and it’s an experience that you’ll probably never forget. Customer Service is the support that you offer your members, customers, patients, etc. Customer service is crucial in business AND in ministry. I emphasize AND because often times, I feel like ministries leave this part out. They don’t understand that customer service is the perfect way to show God’s love. When someone emails or calls with questions or concerns, they should know that they are dealing with a Christian. And by that, I mean they should see that your mannerisms and attitude are like Christ. You are slow to anger. You are patient and you listen to them. There have been many emails that I have received (not necessarily from swHw members) where I wanted to immediately send them an email back and basically say “I’m sorry, but no.” But what a great opportunity to show people grace! Instead of immediately shutting down and assuming that they are wrong, or that they should have done this or that, why not give them the benefit of the doubt, cover them in grace and mercy, and speak to them in [...]

Should I Share My Opinion on Social Media?

By |2020-05-08T15:48:04-04:00July 21st, 2016|Business, Faith, Faith-Based Leadership|

From politics to parenting, our world is not short on opinions. In fact, at the end of the day, I doubt anyone goes to bed thinking, “I wish I knew just one more thing about how someone else is thinking.” The joys of social media: a fantastic tool in the hands of some, and a landmine that can blow at any moment in the hands of others. As someone with a platform (not near as large as most), I used to struggle with what I should share and what I shouldn’t share. I came up with three guidelines that have helped me, and I hope they are valuable to you as you seek discernment in sharing on social media. Guideline #1: If my opinion is different than God’s opinion, I’m wrong. Isaiah 55:8-9 remind us, “’For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,’ declares the Lord. ‘As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.’” Basically, God is reminding us here that we’re not going to ever understand fully what He does or why He does it. So whether we [...]

Ministry Has No Small Tasks

By |2020-05-08T15:49:51-04:00July 7th, 2016|Faith, Faith-Based Leadership|

“Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other. In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly.”  |Romans 12:4-8| God has given each of us unique talents, qualities and abilities.  Personally, I enjoy the details. I like doing the tasks that many people roll their eyes at when they think about doing them. I cringe, start to sweat, and my heart beats a million miles a minute at the thought of speaking in front of a group of people or doing anything where the spotlight is on me. Each team member [...]
