How to Catch the Eye of Your Virtual Mentor

By |2020-05-08T15:47:02-04:00September 6th, 2016|Business, Faith|

One of the cool things about social media is that it’s opened doors for us to be able to communicate with people we look up to – those in our field, authors, speakers, business mentors. It’s an incredible opportunity. But is there a way to get their attention? Because after all, if there’s something that we really dig about them, wouldn’t they feel the same way about us? There’s only one thing that has worked for me to be able to score face-to-face time with people I’ve looked up to for years – from Christian authors to business gurus. And it’s not “wowing” them with what I do or with my work. It’s not asking them to promote me or my business. In fact, it’s exactly the opposite. These three tips are so simple, but many people overlook them. And it has had a 100% success rate for me. Here you go! Get involved in their work. Depending on the audience size of your virtual mentor, you may or may not be able to get a response from them on social media. But you dramatically increase your chances once you start doing business with them. If they have an [...]

The Top 3 Reasons You Need a Blog

By |2020-05-08T15:47:15-04:00August 23rd, 2016|Business|

Have you ever considered starting a blog for your business or ministry, but wondered if it was truly worth the time and energy? A completely valid question and one I want to chat through today. Whether you love the thought of it or not, a blog is one of the greatest leadership tools you can utilize for your business. Now, this may look different functionally for each business or ministry and blogging may or may not need to be on your specific to-do list. So whether you take it on as your personal task, divide the responsibility amongst the members of your team, or delegate it to a certain individual, it will undoubtedly be beneficial in the long run. Why? Here are just 3 reasons (out of many) that show why having a blog is worth investing time into for your business. 1. To re-purpose and highlight your best content.  With ever changing social media platforms and algorithms, sometimes it feels as if you're just tossing your heart and mind into the wind. With as much time and thought as you put into your social media, you should have a place where it can be stored and viewed easily by those [...]

Are You a Social Media Thief?

By |2020-05-08T15:47:20-04:00August 18th, 2016|Business, Faith, Faith-Based Leadership|

As a entrepreneur in the creative space and as an author, plagiarism is something I deal with on a daily basis. Yes, even though 98% of what I put out there would have to be stolen by another person who claims Christ, it’s still an issue. Now, I refuse to live my life in a way that seeks to chase down every person who steals my ideas, words or creative work, so this is my heartfelt attempt to speak out against plagiarism as a whole from a Biblical perspective. But first, what exactly is plagiarism? Well, it used to be simply a copyright violation. Before the Internet, Pinterest and social media, it was much more difficult to plagiarize because before you could publish something, there were copyright filters to ensure plagiarism didn’t happen. But you don’t have to have a publisher to mass produce your thoughts anymore. All you need are a few social media accounts and fancy apps on your phone to steal someone else’s work and in the minds of most, be “undetected.” And most don’t even think it’s wrong. Almost daily on my clothing line’s social media page, someone will tag their friend in one of [...]

3 Questions to Ask Before You Hire

By |2020-05-08T15:47:34-04:00August 9th, 2016|Business|

Why us? Why our company?  I like to know right out of the gate the motivation of a prospect team member. This answer often tells me if they are looking for “greener” pastures or if they truly feel our company is the right fit for them. Have they done their research? Do they know who we are, what we stand for, and where we’re going? Some things to watch our for when you hear your interviewee’s response is a lot of complaining about their current employer, or an attitude of arrogance - they are too good for where they are. I want to know they will be an asset to our team but I also want to hear them say something about how they are excited to learn from us as well.  What’s your jam? AKA - What are you passionate about? This is a question I ask in and out of the office. First, I just love hearing people answer it. Secondly, this is a sure fire way to know if I can offer my prospect team member the ability to work in that passion. I’ve found after hiring several team members that any job description less than [...]

What Good Customer Service & Your Witness Have in Common

By |2020-05-08T15:47:40-04:00August 4th, 2016|Business, Faith|

Have you ever experienced horrible customer service? I’m betting that you have, and it’s an experience that you’ll probably never forget. Customer Service is the support that you offer your members, customers, patients, etc. Customer service is crucial in business AND in ministry. I emphasize AND because often times, I feel like ministries leave this part out. They don’t understand that customer service is the perfect way to show God’s love. When someone emails or calls with questions or concerns, they should know that they are dealing with a Christian. And by that, I mean they should see that your mannerisms and attitude are like Christ. You are slow to anger. You are patient and you listen to them. There have been many emails that I have received (not necessarily from swHw members) where I wanted to immediately send them an email back and basically say “I’m sorry, but no.” But what a great opportunity to show people grace! Instead of immediately shutting down and assuming that they are wrong, or that they should have done this or that, why not give them the benefit of the doubt, cover them in grace and mercy, and speak to them in [...]
