Scarcity Mindset vs. Abundance Mindset

By |2023-10-23T09:58:16-04:00October 16th, 2023|Uncategorized|

Put yourself in the disciples' shoes for a moment with me. A huge crowd has gathered to come see Jesus. He has compassion on them, heals the sick among them... and then, it starts getting late. People are going to get hungry soon, and you're kinda in the middle of nowhere. You head to Jesus + nobly say, "Hey, it's going to get dark soon, so we need to send the crowds away to go buy food." You're completely caught off guard when Jesus says, "They don't need to go away. You give them something to eat." Faced with the daunting task of feeding thousands of people, you feel the weight of your scarcity quickly. How can you possibly meet such a great need with so little?! You cut right to reality with Jesus: "We have only five loaves here and two fish.” Jesus responds with a directive you'll never forget: "Bring them to Me." Then, Jesus prays over the food, and you start passing it out to the crowds. You have no clue how it's happening, but every time you think you're handing out the last of it, more appears, so you keep serving more people. You repeat [...]

Hands up if you’re feeling a little tired?

By |2023-10-02T10:05:50-04:00October 2nd, 2023|Uncategorized|

Hands up if you're feeling a little tired? But for real. This week's podcast episode is on the much needed topic of soul care. But before we talk about how to prioritize soul care I feel like for some of you I might need to define what it actually is. Think of soul care as the spiritual version of self care. The world sees self care as one of the most effective ways to fight anxiety and depression as well as minimize the symptoms of stress. If you’re a believer though, you know that there is no amount of self care that will remedy whatever strife or exhaustion you’re feeling if your soul isn’t at peace. Self care isn't bad, but without soul care it's just a band-aid on a gaping wound. The soul must always be tended to first. Matthew 14:23 reads, “And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone. But the boat by this time was a long way from the land.”  After so many sermons preached, miles walked, and miracles performed, Jesus knew what he needed was to go meet [...]

Encouragement for When You Feel Stuck

By |2023-09-25T11:13:14-04:00September 25th, 2023|Uncategorized|

"I don't know another word for it. I guess I just feel... stuck?" Somer has a way of pulling out of me how I'm really feeling, no matter how much I try to ignore my emotions. And these were real words I said to her just a few weeks ago. We've all been there, right? Those moments when it feels like you're in the real-life version of a hamster wheel, and it's the furthest thing from cute. You're expending gospel energy, but it seems as if you're just running in circles and making no progress. [By the way, as a reminder for when you're on the other side of this, Somer empathized with me and prayed for me. She didn't try to fix it. In that moment, that's really what I needed.] A few days later, I was reading my Bible and I spun around in my desk chair when I read 2 Corinthians 4:8-9:  "We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair;  persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed." (By the way, if you're new here and we're going to be real friends, you need to know this isn't [...]

Pursuing Big Things

By |2023-09-25T17:31:26-04:00September 18th, 2023|Uncategorized|

Part 2 of the conversation we started last week is live on the podcast, and this time, we're diving into the topic of when God calls you to pursue big things. Let's get straight to it: Feeling like God is calling you to something big doesn't automatically mean you're prideful any more than feeling called to something small makes you humble. Pride can be an issue and humility is needed, whether what God is calling us to is big or small. But here's the deal: if you are naturally ambitious, ambition is an integral part of how God designed you, and downplaying His handiwork is not an act of humility. Before you listen to the conversation, let me encourage you with three reminders: 1. The "big" part may require waiting, but the work does not. Remember what Jesus said: "The harvest is plentiful (aka -- the work is ready!) but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest field (Matthew 9:37-38). If you're ready to join God's mission, there is work to be done + not enough willing to do it. So jump into the work God is doing [...]

Ep. 93 – A Conversation About Co-Vocational Work: Part I

By |2023-09-25T17:31:43-04:00August 21st, 2023|Uncategorized|

This week's conversation is extra special to us because: 1) It's our first ever LIVE podcast recording with our amazing network present! (To be there for next month's LIVE podcast recording, join the network here!) 2) Michelle + Somer start a conversation that's super close to the heart of this ministry, on co-vocational work, including: what to do when you feel the tension between what God's calling you to do and what the world expects from you being called to multiple places with one mission simplifies more than it complicates how we often compartmentalize the spiritual from the secular but God does not As a reminder, the SWHW podcast is completely you-funded. Your generous donations help other women join this important conversation about how to do what matters in a get-things-done world. From helping us supply resources and support to local churches to ministering to individual women with needs we can meet, thank you for making this ministry possible. You can donate to link arms with us in this mission here. (Every amount helps!)
