Wisdom vs. Knowledge: How to Discern the Difference

By |2021-08-18T16:20:40-04:00August 18th, 2021|Uncategorized|

The word "wisdom" gets thrown around more than it should. Wisdom is often equated with knowledge or information, when wisdom is both greater than and distinct from both. You wouldn't be here if you didn't want wisdom. So here are two truths to guide us as we  seek to be wise: #1: We cannot be wise without God. Proverbs 9:10 tells us, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom." Proverbs 2:6 reminds us God is the Giver of wisdom. James 3:17 notes wisdom comes "from above." Threaded throughout Scripture, God is always the sole Source of wisdom. Reminder: where God is not, wisdom is not. #2: God is insanely generous with His wisdom.  James 1:5 puts it plainly: "But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him."  God doesn't keep His wisdom solely for Himself. His wisdom is available to all who are willing to ask Him for it. Reminder: Wisdom is asked for, not accumulated. In this week's class, Michelle walked [...]

Do You Trust Me Enough to Walk Instead of Run?

By |2021-08-16T16:42:41-04:00August 11th, 2021|Uncategorized|

Dara LaPorta was reading a book that encouraged her to practice silence and solitude to hear from the Lord. As a fitness professional, she decided she would combine the challenge with her workout and go for a run. No podcast. No music. Just the open road...and Florida's heat. It started awful. It was hot, she was tired, and with every step, she felt as if her legs were tied down with 100 lb. weights. And even worse, the whole point of going for the run was to hear God speak, and all she could hear were her heavy strides hitting the pavement. Her inner athlete, though, refused to quit, and about halfway through her run, she started feeling good. She got into a rhythm, her pace picked up, and she was pumped that even if she didn't get to hear the Lord's voice, she was at least going to get a good workout. And right as her competitive nature was about to kick in, that's when she heard Him: "Do you trust Me enough to walk instead of run?" Part of her wanted to ignore it. Where was that voice when [...]

How to Honestly Handle Doubt (Your Own + Others’)

By |2021-08-11T16:25:24-04:00July 29th, 2021|Uncategorized|

There are two main misconceptions about doubt in the Christian world: #1: If you have doubt, you don't have faith. Mark 9:24 is probably one of the most honest verses in all of the Bible. A father brings his son to Jesus who has been possessed by an evil spirit and essentially says to Him, "If you can do anything, please help us!" Jesus replies by telling him that all things are possible for those who believe. Mark 9:24 contains the father's response to Jesus: "I do believe; help my unbelief!” Have you ever felt that way -- where you believe but you need Jesus to help your unbelief? I know I have. Because God's ways are higher than ours, we will absolutely encounter moments and issues we don't fully understand. And so, we will also have moments of doubt. But something I love that my pastor challenges us with often: The more you see God move. The more you witness Him keep His promises - both in His Word and to you personally. The more you feel His peace and His presence when every inch of your flesh "knows" you [...]

A Letter for You from our Leadership

By |2021-08-11T16:25:33-04:00July 28th, 2021|Uncategorized|

Ever had a moment when overthinking made you feel paralyzed -- even when you kept moving? We've been there, and we just wanted to take a moment to be super transparent with those of you here: We've been holding back. Some of what has kept us back has been good intentions. We've stayed away from using the word "discipleship" because some of what we offer requires payment, and we've battled how we would respond to any pushback over "charging" for discipleship. So we've used various phrases over the years to describe our community: we've called it work wisdom. We've called it business training. We've called it Christ-centered coaching. None of those are untrue. But they're not the best description of what happens here. And none really communicate the main mission of this ministry. We're here for discipleship. We believe the local church is God's Plan A for gospel community, and that's why over and over again, you'll hear us point you back to your church and elevate the local church. You'll see us partner with pastors + ministry leaders whenever we can. And we're up front about our belief that if if you [...]
