One Chore a Day to a Clean House

By |2020-05-08T15:41:45-04:00December 13th, 2016|Family|

Let’s be honest. As working women, we have a hard time finding enough hours in the day to get everything done for work + our family, much less clean the house! A few months ago I decided to create myself a cleaning schedule to keep me on track and help me not feel so overwhelmed with housework. It’s been a game changer for me! I found that by doing one chore a day, it helped to keep the house clean, but also not feel like I was spending hours a day cleaning. There are also a few things that I do every day that seriously takes about 10 minutes that really helps keep things tidy and organized! If you're like me, if you wake up to a dirty house, you're not productive at all! I have to clean and feel organized before I can sit down and work without distractions! I have created a basic cleaning schedule, so feel free to download it, crank up the music and get to cleaning! I’d love to know if you find this cleaning schedule helpful! Would you add anything different to yours?

Leadership Lessons from the Christmas Story: Mary

By |2020-05-08T15:42:55-04:00December 12th, 2016|Faith, Faith-Based Leadership, Family|

Living boldly for Jesus won’t be easy, but it will be worth it. – Michelle Myers 12/12-12/22, we are going to be sharing some valuable lessons for the swHw woman within the story of Jesus’ birth. Though the greatest lesson we can grasp from this story is simply Jesus himself, we pray as we dig a little deeper for leadership and character application that these truths would leave us more in awe of our Savior and this wonderful time of year. Join us in the #swHwapp - download yours on iTunes and Google Play. “But the angel said to her, ‘Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus.’” – Luke 1:30-31 I know when I think of Mary, my mind usually drifts to the excitement in her assignment from God. What an unbelievable opportunity – to be the mother of God’s son. But while her assignment was unique and exciting, and Mary is spoken of with great respect and admiration today, it wasn’t like that 2,000 years ago. Most historians speculate Mary was between 15-16 years old when she gave [...]

4 Ways to Get to Know Your In-Laws

By |2020-05-08T15:43:05-04:00December 6th, 2016|Family|

Last night, I sat at a table with 8 other women who are all married. I asked them if they enjoyed spending time with their in-laws (i.e. if they LIKED them). ALL 8 women said no! I knew I was in the minority, but I didn’t realize how much. The thought of living near your in-laws may sound like a nightmare and bring back scenes from Everybody Loves Raymond in your mind, but I really could live next to my in-laws. My in-laws are incredible, Bible-believing, world-changing people. They have been missionaries for the past 14 years. They’ve seen the world. They’ve raised 3 boys to become incredible men who love the Lord first. I say all of this to not rub it in your face or brag about my in-laws, but to instead tell you that it IS possible to like AND even love your in-laws. A lot of circumstances are out of our control. We can’t control if our spouse’s parents are still married or if they’re divorced. We can’t control personalities or habits. But we can control OUR attitude towards them. We can make a conscious effort to get to know them better so that every [...]

swHw stories: The Giving Manger

By |2020-05-08T15:43:11-04:00December 1st, 2016|Business, Family|

At swHw, we love introducing you to incredible women who are using their gifts, talents and abilities for God's glory. Last year, I met Allison, and I instantly adored her and her vision in creating the Christmas tradition, The Giving Manger. Read this blog from her below, and make sure you use our discount code below if you decide to bring this Christ-centered tradition into your home this year. Christmas is one of our favorite holidays, filled with fun and festive traditions. But we often felt like the true meaning of Christmas and the spirit of giving was getting lost in the craziness.  We wanted to find a fun and interactive way to help our kids and families focus and learn about the true meaning of Christmas. A trip down memory landereminded me of a tradition a childhood friend of mine did in her home.  They had a simple wooden manger with a bundle of straw next to it.  I remember asking her what it was for. "To give gifts of service back to Christ," she said. That was it. Just a simple tradition that I didn't forget. I knew this memory was the answer to my prayers, and  [...]

Capture Their Hearts, Lord

By |2020-05-08T15:43:15-04:00November 29th, 2016|Faith, Family|

When we think about how to pray for our teenagers, it seems like this should be an easy answer, right? I need to pray for their health, I need to pray for their safety, I need to pray they make good decisions, I need to pray for the right friends, I need to pray for their future spouse, I need to pray that they love and follow God… Nothing wrong with that list, but there’s a big one that I didn't know to pray until recently: I’ve started praying God will capture their hearts. Key word: CAPTURE. I remember when I first heard this prayer prayed. We were at a staff prayer night (My husband, Kent, is a pastor at LifeHouse Church in Middletown, Delaware), and our lead pastor’s wife prayed it over the staff kids… “And God, I beg of You, capture the hearts of our children!”  As soon as the words came out of her mouth, every mom (and a few dad’s!) in the room became emotional. It was so powerful, and I think we were surprised by it. I know I was. It was as if God was saying, “YES, that is the right prayer to [...]
