Top Five Habits for Personal Growth

By |2020-05-08T15:38:02-04:00April 20th, 2017|Business, Family|

Your business will stop growing when you do. Plain and simple. If you want your business to grow, you must also keep growing. Because personal growth is a passion point for me, I’d love to give you the top five habits (Yes, that means actions that are done repeatedly, not once!) that will keep you growing. Let’s dig in: Pray specifically. My prayers used to be pretty general: “Thank you, God, for everything You’ve given me. God, use me. God, help me pursue You in all things. God, be with my family.” While those aren’t bad prayers, I’ve found praying specifically has helped me increase intimacy with the Lord as I speak with Him like my trusted Father. For example, just this morning, I was praying for my oldest, Noah. Instead of just asking God to protect him and guide him, here is part of my prayer from my journal: “God, thank you so much for the responsibility of being Noah’s mom. Help me be the kind of earthly parent that continuously points him to You. God, I pray that He will accept Jesus Christ as His Savior at a young age and walk closely with You always. Help [...]

Six Days to a Clutter FREE Home

By |2020-05-08T15:38:13-04:00April 6th, 2017|Family, Health|

Clutter is the worst. You may claim that it truly doesn't bother you, but I would ask you the same question I ask my Productivity Academy students who tell me that: Have you ever tried life without clutter? When I finally get them to commit to de-cluttering just their workspace, a light bulb moment happens, and they fall in love with their organized, de-cluttered space. No one has ever said “I really wish I hadn't done that, Somer!” These are some of the benefits they notice immediately: They don't dread sitting down to work. They are more productive. They are less distracted. They complete more tasks instead of jumping from one task to another. They sleep better. (Interesting, right?) They realize they didn’t need nearly as much stuff as they thought they did. So I’m challenging you to change up your typical Spring Cleaning regimen. Skip the windows and baseboards, and instead, purge like you never have before! Think you don't have time for a project like this? Give me 2-3 hours a day for six days, (You can break them up, doing one hour in the morning and two hours at night even!) and see what happens. THE [...]

Stop Believing the Lies

By |2020-05-08T15:40:02-04:00March 16th, 2017|Faith, Family|

I recently had an emotional breakdown. There were a lot of circumstances out of my control happening, and one night, I finally broke down. I realized that I had been fighting for so long to “have it all together” and act like my life was going 100% planned by me. Because isn’t that what we want others to think--that we’ve got it all together, we’re never thrown off our game, and we trust the Lord 100% of the time? I can tell you from experience, that’s wrong. It’s a lie and it’s wrong. We don’t have it all together. We’re thrown off our game when we’re given a curveball, and we don’t trust that the Lord has our best interests in mind. We’re human. Our sinful nature is to not trust in Him. When I finally stopped fighting, I realized 2 things: I was believing Satan’s lies, not God’s promises. It finally hit me that I had believed the enemy’s lies for so long. I thought I wasn’t capable, strong, or confident. I was so far away from God that I couldn’t hear His voice anymore. I couldn’t hear that He was saying, “Teeny, you are strong in Me.” [...]

Leading in Love

By |2020-05-08T15:40:23-04:00February 28th, 2017|Faith, Faith-Based Leadership, Family|

Do you have an opinion about Valentine’s Day? {My husband thinks it always falls on a Tuesday and this year, he was right!} I know there are some who dread it, some who adore it, and some who just say “meh.” I totally understand all of those reactions, but I’ve got to tell you that it’s an incredibly special day for my family. My husband Phil and I were married right around Valentine’s Day {February 18, to be exact}, so this holiday will forever be surrounded by sweet memories for me {and maybe a few thoughts of the crazy last-minute wedding prep, too!}. This past week we celebrated our fifth wedding anniversary, and I’m so excited and honored to share with you a few of the leadership qualities that make my man so inspiring. When I think about the leadership traits I admire most in my husband, there are two things that come to mind almost immediately {Honesty time: I’ve been sitting here trying to do this blog post justice, and I know my words won’t be enough, so I hope you can hear my heart in these}. First, my husband is a true prayer warrior. Not many people [...]

Leading in Love

Before I share how my husband, Sam, leads our family well, I want to give a little background of our relationship.  Sam and I are the same age, and we met in 4th grade. His family moved to Greece from our 8th grade year to the Summer before our senior year of high school. Sam and I reconnected over MySpace (don’t judge, ha!) and began emailing back and forth the year before he moved back home. Nerd alert: I kept all of those emails and put them in a book for us! We dated senior year, broke up, and then began dating again freshman year of college. We dated long distance all 4 years of college and got married in July right after we graduated. We’ve been married for 5.5 years now! Sam and I got to know each other very well during the year of writing back and forth. You really get to know one’s heart through letters! I quickly learned that Sam is a one-of-a-kind man! Sam has so many wonderful qualities, and I could write for days about him, but I’ll save you all some time. I’ve chosen my favorite three leadership qualities about him, and [...]
