Only Here To Prepare The Way For Jesus

By |2020-05-08T15:54:34-04:00August 31st, 2015|Faith|

This Week's Memory Verse:   "He must become greater; I must become less." - John 3:30 Devo:   In the verses leading up to this, some of John's disciples come up to him, concerned because Jesus was also baptizing & people were going to him instead of coming to them. John is quick to dismiss & correct their thinking, telling them, "I am only here to prepare the way for Jesus" (vs 28). Oh, sweet friends, let's not brush by that too quickly. How often do we approach our lives in that perspective? I am only here to prepare the way for Jesus.    Not just here. Only here.   I'll just say it: It can be easy to focus on the success of our ministries more than we focus on Christ. But if we truly want to be leaders in Christ's mission, we must get out of the way and let Christ take His rightful place at center stage. So how do we make Him greater and make ourselves less? 1) Emulate Christ's humility, doing nothing out of selfish ambition & looking first to the interests of others (Philippians 2:3-4).  I love these words of Jim Collins: "The x-factor of great leadership is [...]

The Best iOs Photo & Video Apps for Business

By |2020-05-08T15:54:39-04:00June 30th, 2015|Branding|

Looking for the best iOs photo and video apps for business? If you're using social media to grow a platform, these are important tools to have in your toolbox. (Plus, I can't answer "What app is that?" as often as it's asked!) Some are free & some aren’t, but they’re all worth the download. Enjoy! Photo Apps Typic Any pic you see that contains one of my logos (Myers Cross Training, Cross Training Couture, or She Works His Way), this is the app I’ve used to create it. It’s also fantastic for putting words on photos, and it has some great filters. PicFrame If you need to get multiple pictures in a frame, this is what I use. There are several others that are similar, but this is my go-to app. Camera+ For basic photo editing & re-touching lighting or contrast, this app is super user friendly. TouchBlur If you need to blur out the background of a photo (like if you’re working out in your garage & there’s a lawn mower right behind you), this is the app for you. Photoblend If you need to merge two photos, you can use this app to do just that. Video [...]

Dear Woman Who Loves Jesus Too

By |2020-05-08T15:56:16-04:00June 30th, 2015|Faith-Based Leadership|

Dear Woman Who Loves Jesus Too, With a public ministry, I am used to being told to “tone the Jesus down” or that some wish I wasn’t so “religious.” (Those are the tame ones I’m willing to share. Other messages have been a little more…umm…colorful.) While these messages used to paralyze me momentarily, I now see them as confirmation that I’m being light in our dark world. Of course, this is not exclusive to me. There are many women with much larger audiences than me who I am sure deal with many more shades of crazy than I do. But as I look at my own page and the other social media platforms of women I respect & admire, it’s not the atheists or those of other belief systems’ comments who make my jaw drop. It’s the attacking comments of those who claim Christ.  It’s the harsh words against one of our own. It’s the egotistical need “to be more right” than another, when it’s related more to experience & opinion than concrete truth. Though my husband may be shocked to see it in writing, I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t always do the right thing or [...]

Stewardship Income Tracker Tips

By |2020-05-08T15:56:19-04:00April 7th, 2015|Business, Faith|

But someone who does not know, and then does something wrong, will be punished only lightly. When someone has been given much, much will be required in return; and when someone has been entrusted with much, even more will be required. - Luke 12:48 When your income varies from week to week as an entrepreneur, budgeting can be difficult. When I first became an independent contractor, there were no longer exact amounts that were predetermined for my weekly income. However, that didn't change that James and I wanted to be good stewards with our resources. My husband, who is unbelievably smarter than I am in this area, developed this Excel tracker to help us: Give back to the Lord through tithing Put money back for taxes (quarterly or at the end of the year as an independent contractor) Put money back in personal savings responsibly Pay off student loans Manage multiple income streams Formulas in the Stewardship Income Tracker automatically calculate: Weekly, Monthly & Annual Income (Actual income & averages) 10% tithe to the local church (Malachi 3:10) 20% for taxes (Mark 12:17) -- This is an average & can be edited to caluclate a more accurate percentage for [...]

5 Tips for Increased Productivity for Mompreneurs

By |2020-05-08T15:56:23-04:00November 3rd, 2014|Business|

Working from home, especially with young kids, can be challenging. The flexibility is great, but we have to be careful that flexible doesn't turn to flimsy if we're looking to be productive. Here are my top 5 tips for young moms who work from home. 1. Get up at 5am. I know some of you think I just said a bad word, but for me, working from home does not mean sleeping in. Maybe your kids sleep later than mine, but when you're blessed with an early bird like I am, my alarm goes off early so I can have some [95% of the time!] uninterrupted time before everyone else wakes up. I wake up, work out (before my body even knows what's going on), have my devotion & prayer time, and complete my power hour to-do list. (More on that in Tip 2!) 2. Have a power hour to-do list. I have a few critical tasks, and those all get knocked out before 7am. 5am-6am is me time, but 6am-7am is work time. That way, if everything else goes wrong the rest of the day, I've gotten the non-negotiable tasks done. What is scheduled before 7am? Likely nothing! If you [...]
