Capture Their Hearts, Lord

By |2020-05-08T15:43:15-04:00November 29th, 2016|Faith, Family|

When we think about how to pray for our teenagers, it seems like this should be an easy answer, right? I need to pray for their health, I need to pray for their safety, I need to pray they make good decisions, I need to pray for the right friends, I need to pray for their future spouse, I need to pray that they love and follow God… Nothing wrong with that list, but there’s a big one that I didn't know to pray until recently: I’ve started praying God will capture their hearts. Key word: CAPTURE. I remember when I first heard this prayer prayed. We were at a staff prayer night (My husband, Kent, is a pastor at LifeHouse Church in Middletown, Delaware), and our lead pastor’s wife prayed it over the staff kids… “And God, I beg of You, capture the hearts of our children!”  As soon as the words came out of her mouth, every mom (and a few dad’s!) in the room became emotional. It was so powerful, and I think we were surprised by it. I know I was. It was as if God was saying, “YES, that is the right prayer to [...]

5 Tips Before Speaking Truth in Love

By |2020-05-08T15:43:31-04:00November 17th, 2016|Faith-Based Leadership|

Leadership is not for sissies. If there’s anything I’ve learned in almost nine years of entrepreneurship, this might be one of the reoccurring lessons I have to face on a regular basis. I’m not one that looks for confrontation, but I’ve also learned that in leadership, difficult conversations can’t be avoided forever. And many times, the longer they’re avoided, the worse off everyone ends up. But it’s important that when handling difficult issues, we follow Paul’s advice to Ephasus, and speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15). So before I follow through with a difficult conversation, here are the five steps I follow to ensure I’m as prepared as possible to speak the truth in love: 1. The goal for the conversation is to help them, not to hurt them.  Loving instruction helps more than it hurts. It doesn’t mean the truth won’t be slightly painful to hear in the moment, but the reality for that person must mean that long-term, it will help them much more than it will hurt them. 2. I’m not afraid of the truth that needs to be said. Not all truth is easy to say, but the more vague we are in our [...]

The Truth About Basecamp

By |2020-05-08T15:43:38-04:00November 16th, 2016|Uncategorized|

Do you ever feel like the work communication never stops? Are you overwhelmed with your projects and need a place for all of it to go? Look no further! Let me introduce you to Basecamp. Basecamp is a website and an app. Everyone on your team can have a role. It has been super valuable to us at swHw so that we make sure and maximize our work hours so that we can ultimately maximize our time with our families! Let me breakdown the features for you: PING: a ping is similar to a text. You can ping one person or multiple people. If they set up notifications then they can be notified every time someone pings them. I’m sure you’re thinking, why ping if you can text? Well, it keeps everything in one place. I would recommend picking text or ping and stick to it. We have utilized pings so that we are all on the same page and it’s all in one place. CAMPFIRE: a campfire lets you have separate businesses/ministries. We have one set up for MCT, swHw, CTC and MCT Leadership. You can add certain people to specific ones. Within a Campfire, you have to-dos, [...]

Giving God Our Little To Do Much

By |2020-05-08T15:43:42-04:00November 10th, 2016|Business, Family|

One of my favorite things to do is read stories in the Bible that I remember from when I was a kid. Growing up in church as a pastor’s kid, I’ve seen my share of Bible stories acted out, put on a felt board, or shared from a puppet. But don’t be fooled. While they are incredible stories that can captivate kids & make Jesus real to them, it’s also solid truth from God’s Word. And no matter how many felt board or puppet versions I’ve seen, God always manages to teach me something new. For the last week, I’ve been studying the Feeding of the 5,000. Granted, it’s one of my favorites, but it’s also one of the stories that made it into all 4 Gospel accounts – Matthew 14:13-21; Mark 6:30-44; Luke 9:10-17, and John 6:1-14. (If God made a story appear in the Bible 4 times, it just might be important!) Here are my top takeaways during this season as a young mother: (Warning: Each of these may become their own blogs in the next few weeks.) People are watching how we respond during hard times. John the Baptist was Jesus’ cousin. He was the one who baptized Jesus. [...]

5 Tips to Prepare Your Business Before Baby

By |2020-05-08T15:44:06-04:00November 1st, 2016|Business, Family|

If you’re a first time mom, hopefully, I’m not the first to break the news: Life as you know it is about to change forever…in the best way possible! In fact, I remember my dad telling me when I got pregnant with my son, Noah: “You will never pray the same, and you will never sleep the same.” He was 100% spot on! Entrepreneur life doesn’t come with maternity leave…but we need it! So here are my top 5 tips for your business to run “business as usual” while you enjoy a slower work season and all the snuggles, joy…and exhaustion a baby brings. 1. Work ahead as much as possible. Even though I “knew” what to expect when my second son was born, I remember feeling overwhelmed with the “constantness” of newborn life. Anything you can do to get ahead (without compromising your priorities, of course) will be beneficial. For example, as I’m typing this, I still have a baby in my belly, and while you’re reading it, Shea is several months old. Blogging is a re-occurring task of mine, so before Shea was born, I wrote all of my blogs for the remainder of 2016. 2. Empower [...]
