You can learn a lot about someone by the questions they ask... so in case you've been curious to know if the SWHW community is right for you, here's a few of the questions our community wanted to talk about in this month's Q+A: WAITING In a season of waiting, how to determine if God is wanting you to be patient, do His work where you are right now, or if he’s saying this isn’t for you anymore, take a leap of faith and move on? // I would second this. I'm struggling greatly working in the secular field. Are my urges to leave, me or Him. Is it me being uncomfortable or really the Holy Spirit nudging me? How do you move forward in answering God’s call when you’re confident in His calling, but your spouse isn’t on the same page? CAREER I will start a new job next week! How does one begin well when a new door opens? My team seems to be in a really low place with the pandemic and moral just feels really heavy and dark. How do I help my [...]

We’ve Been Getting it Wrong

By |2021-02-16T08:31:24-05:00February 16th, 2021|Uncategorized|

Humans complicate EVERYTHING - we should know this by now. And to make matters harder on ourselves, our methods to find rest for our cluttered minds and heavy hearts often start with a closet clean-out or a pantry reorganization... only leading to more overwhelm... because let’s be honest - it never lasts. It's time to flip the list in how we simplify: Here’s what we want you to know: A simple life starts with a simple affection and that affection starts at the very center of who you are. Intrigued? Want to unpack this Biblical view of simplification with us on Wednesday at 1pm EDT? Workshop seats are open to non-members for just $20. Buy your workshop seat here. [If you cannot attend LIVE, a recording will be emailed to you!] Rooted in Him and rooting for you, the swHw team P.S. Opening this email after the workshop? All workshops, classes + digital resources are archived for swHw members. Join swHw for just $15/month or $120/year here.

Priorities Won’t Thrive on Autopilot

By |2021-02-11T13:58:44-05:00February 11th, 2021|Uncategorized|

God, family, and work...in that order. You've probably heard us say it before. That phrase may even be the reason you connected here in the first place. And that's also why even though you are a professional woman, the "work" we talk about here won't always be the work you're paid to do. But the "works" of she works His way apply to that priority order: cultivating your personal relationship with Christ continuing His mission of making disciples marriage parenting serving your local church and community friendships viewing your workplace as more of a mission field to serve than some corporate ladder to climb. how you work > what you do Because each of these areas requires our intention and our effort. And what's more important should get more of our effort -- not less. But somehow, despite what we know or even desire, it happens. And before we know it, our "priorities" are on autopilot, and even worse -- we expect them to thrive anyway. I remember being young in ministry and a mentor telling me, "No one else will fight for your family, so you must." He [...]

Two Extra Comforting Words from Jesus’ Earthly Ministry

By |2021-02-04T12:49:29-05:00February 5th, 2021|Uncategorized|

I'm not sure how many times I've read through this passage, but for the first time, these two words leapt off the page: "And Jesus stopped and said, "Call him here." - Mark 10:49 Jesus stopped. [We'll come back to this, but let's back up a bit.] Jesus is about to leave Jericho, and a blind man named Bartimaeus begins crying out when he sees Him, begging Jesus to have mercy on him. The crowds try to keep him quiet, but Bartimaeus kept crying out. And Jesus stopped. Jesus was on His way out of town. His mission was important. Looking at the timeline, He was passing through Jericho on His way to Jerusalem... to be crucified. But when Bartimaeus cried out to Him in faith, Jesus stopped. And this morning when I read it, I felt like He stopped for me too. Even though this past year has caused a slower pace across most areas of life, I'm somehow just as exhausted because it never seems to stop... maybe you can relate?  Between the blurred lines of home, school, and work, plus [...]

Three Lies the World Tells Us About Anxiety

By |2021-01-28T14:06:50-05:00January 29th, 2021|Uncategorized|

Truth: we [Michelle + Somer] rarely feel "qualified" to talk about anxiety. And not just because it seems to be everywhere, but because there seems to be so much disagreement, even among Christians, about where it comes from + how to deal with it. That's why we were so grateful to have Jess Hatton (mental health counselor, seminary grad, mom of three and long-time swHw member) share in class this week, and after some staggering statistics, she addressed the three lies the world tell us about anxiety: LIE # 1: Anxiety is purely a spiritual issue/anxiety is purely a mental/emotional issue. The truth is: it's both. There are real physiological and practical tools (which Jess also shared!) that can help us overcome our emotions, and we also have an enemy who can manipulate our emotions as a form of spiritual warfare. So it's okay to need to get help, and it's definitely okay to pray about your anxiousness too. But you don't have to choose one or the other to be handling it "seriously." Both are needed. LIE # 2: Uncomfortable emotions are bad and should be avoided [...]
