Giving God Our Little To Do Much

By |2020-05-08T15:43:42-04:00November 10th, 2016|Business, Family|

One of my favorite things to do is read stories in the Bible that I remember from when I was a kid. Growing up in church as a pastor’s kid, I’ve seen my share of Bible stories acted out, put on a felt board, or shared from a puppet. But don’t be fooled. While they are incredible stories that can captivate kids & make Jesus real to them, it’s also solid truth from God’s Word. And no matter how many felt board or puppet versions I’ve seen, God always manages to teach me something new. For the last week, I’ve been studying the Feeding of the 5,000. Granted, it’s one of my favorites, but it’s also one of the stories that made it into all 4 Gospel accounts – Matthew 14:13-21; Mark 6:30-44; Luke 9:10-17, and John 6:1-14. (If God made a story appear in the Bible 4 times, it just might be important!) Here are my top takeaways during this season as a young mother: (Warning: Each of these may become their own blogs in the next few weeks.) People are watching how we respond during hard times. John the Baptist was Jesus’ cousin. He was the one who baptized Jesus. [...]

Focused Four

By |2020-05-08T15:43:49-04:00November 8th, 2016|Business, Family|

Many of us have heard about the Power Hour method - No matter how busy you are, schedule your day in such a way that you can pause life and focus all of your attention into a 60 minute block of hardcore, laser focused, WORK. It’s an awesome option for those of you that are juggling mommy-hood with working or running your own business. Or maybe for those of you still at a day job but working diligently to advance a side business. However, studies show that at the 60-minute mark most people’s brain is just getting warmed up. I don’t know about you but when I get into a groove, I hate being interrupted! My mind is similar to my minivan’s engine on a super cold day. It’s slow and loud when I start it up, but the longer it runs, the fast and smoother it runs! (Minivan moms unite!) So is it possible? Is there any chance at all you could work in 4-hour blocks? It’s worth looking into. For those of you that have the ability to set your own schedule, here are a few tips on how I would do it… better yet, how I [...]

5 Tips to Prepare Your Business Before Baby

By |2020-05-08T15:44:06-04:00November 1st, 2016|Business, Family|

If you’re a first time mom, hopefully, I’m not the first to break the news: Life as you know it is about to change forever…in the best way possible! In fact, I remember my dad telling me when I got pregnant with my son, Noah: “You will never pray the same, and you will never sleep the same.” He was 100% spot on! Entrepreneur life doesn’t come with maternity leave…but we need it! So here are my top 5 tips for your business to run “business as usual” while you enjoy a slower work season and all the snuggles, joy…and exhaustion a baby brings. 1. Work ahead as much as possible. Even though I “knew” what to expect when my second son was born, I remember feeling overwhelmed with the “constantness” of newborn life. Anything you can do to get ahead (without compromising your priorities, of course) will be beneficial. For example, as I’m typing this, I still have a baby in my belly, and while you’re reading it, Shea is several months old. Blogging is a re-occurring task of mine, so before Shea was born, I wrote all of my blogs for the remainder of 2016. 2. Empower [...]

Real Life: Patience and Contentment in Times of Waiting

By |2020-05-08T15:44:53-04:00October 13th, 2016|Faith, Family|

Can I be real with you for a second? My husband Harrison and I are abundantly blessed and we have so much to be thankful for! (I cannot say that ENOUGH.) However, we are in a season of waiting. And to say that patience and contentment come easily for me these days would be far from the truth! I'm a sinner, y'all. We've recently moved to Knoxville, TN after a season of Harrison serving in ministry near Asheville, NC at a Christian camp called Camp Ridgecrest for Boys. (If you have young boys, you seriously need to look into this place! I promise they will experience Jesus in new and wonderful and adventurous ways!) During this season, we are thankful to live with my in-laws as Harrison is interviewing for his new job. However, our ultimate desire is to have a home of our own, to settle in and "nest," to be able to host friends and families in our own space. We know that God is in control and we can trust Him throughout this job interviewing process, but my mind can often turn to doubt, impatience, and discontentment. It's not a one-time attitude change for me. It's [...]

What Parenthood is Teaching Me About Jesus

By |2020-05-08T15:45:04-04:00October 6th, 2016|Faith, Family|

I am only 16 months into this whole parenting thing but MAN, I have learned a LOT! So many people given me their advice, some unwarranted ☺. I have read more books than I have in a long time. My husband, Sam, and I consulted both of our parents. That was all very helpful, but nothing can prepare you for parenthood – in every aspect. Parenthood is hard. Parenthood is exhausting. But parenthood is so incredibly amazing. Parenthood has taught me so much about my Jesus that I have loved for many years. Parenthood has shown me my weaknesses and my strengths. These are just a few of the things that parenthood is teaching me about Jesus: Love – The love that a parent has for a child is incredible. And there is something so amazing about knowing that my daughter, Harper, is such a beautiful mix of Sam and me. I never fully understood what Mary must have felt watching her son die on the cross. When Harper was just a few months old, I was rocking her one night while she slept. I was overcome with emotion just thinking about Mary and what it must have been [...]
