What Parenthood is Teaching Me About Jesus

By |2020-05-08T15:45:04-04:00October 6th, 2016|Faith, Family|

I am only 16 months into this whole parenting thing but MAN, I have learned a LOT! So many people given me their advice, some unwarranted ☺. I have read more books than I have in a long time. My husband, Sam, and I consulted both of our parents. That was all very helpful, but nothing can prepare you for parenthood – in every aspect. Parenthood is hard. Parenthood is exhausting. But parenthood is so incredibly amazing. Parenthood has taught me so much about my Jesus that I have loved for many years. Parenthood has shown me my weaknesses and my strengths. These are just a few of the things that parenthood is teaching me about Jesus: Love – The love that a parent has for a child is incredible. And there is something so amazing about knowing that my daughter, Harper, is such a beautiful mix of Sam and me. I never fully understood what Mary must have felt watching her son die on the cross. When Harper was just a few months old, I was rocking her one night while she slept. I was overcome with emotion just thinking about Mary and what it must have been [...]

3 Tips to Remain the Purpose Police of Your Life

By |2020-05-08T15:46:28-04:00September 22nd, 2016|Business, Faith, Faith-Based Leadership|

Purpose. In business, it’s the word that separates the innovators from the imitators. It’s what differentiates between top-performing businesses and average-producing businesses. (Bonus tip: Couple being purpose-driven with integrity over a decade in the same space, and you’ll outdo 90% of the competition in your market.) So, in a world that seems to emphasize profitability and popularity, how do we ensure purpose stays the focus for our lives? Here are my top 3 tips: Pray. “But I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might show you My power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth” (Exodus 9:16). Attempting to walk in purpose without consulting our Purpose-Giver is about as irresponsible as it gets. God gave us our purpose, so we must continually be growing in our personal relationship with Him to continue to grow in purpose. One of the most important things I stress with the women I mentor is how prayer is a productive use of our time. Don’t make it an afterthought, but a daily non-negotiable. Even if you’re just getting started in business or ministry, little is much in the hands of God. Prayer is our regular exercise [...]

4 Communication Truths I Learned During my First Year of Marriage

By |2020-05-08T15:46:39-04:00September 14th, 2016|Faith|

My husband Harrison and I got married May 9th, 2015 and it has been a wonderful adventure! Throughout our whole dating relationship we lived many hours away from each other, Harrison in Tennessee and I in Florida. While our long distance relationship definitely forced us to learn how to communicate positively while going weeks or months without seeing each other, God has continued to teach us the value of good communication throughout our first year of marriage. (And I know He isn't finished teaching us either!) 1. Communicate expectations early & often. One week after Harrison and I got married, we both began working at a Christian summer camp in North Carolina. We both adore the camp and its mission to share the gospel with kids through discipleship and adventure. While it was a wonderfully fun experience there were times when I would feel frustrated about the lack of time we got to spend together 1-on-1. However, we quickly learned that if we both had accurate expectations of what to expect throughout the week, we could be much more content and patient in waiting for those moments of connecting, even though they were few and far between for us [...]

3 Verses to Inspire Your Customer Interaction

By |2020-05-08T15:46:53-04:00September 8th, 2016|Faith, Faith-Based Leadership|

In my last blog, I talked about how dealing with customers could be an opportunity for them to see the love of God. It’s a great chance to share His love and offer grace and mercy. I know firsthand that sometimes interacting with customers can be challenging, and quite frankly, exhausting. On days when I don’t feel like being sweet or offering grace and mercy, I go to God’s Word. There are so many wonderful scripture verses that teach us about interacting with others. And this totally relates to our customers. Here are 3 of those verses: Verse #1: 23 Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ. [Colossians 3:23-24] I need to be reminded daily that I work for the Lord. My allegiance is to Him. Everything I do should be a reflection of Him. Every email I send should be covered in grace and mercy because that’s what we’ve been given from Him. We must always remember that we work to please an audience of one; the One. Verse #2: Now that I, your [...]

How to Catch the Eye of Your Virtual Mentor

By |2020-05-08T15:47:02-04:00September 6th, 2016|Business, Faith|

One of the cool things about social media is that it’s opened doors for us to be able to communicate with people we look up to – those in our field, authors, speakers, business mentors. It’s an incredible opportunity. But is there a way to get their attention? Because after all, if there’s something that we really dig about them, wouldn’t they feel the same way about us? There’s only one thing that has worked for me to be able to score face-to-face time with people I’ve looked up to for years – from Christian authors to business gurus. And it’s not “wowing” them with what I do or with my work. It’s not asking them to promote me or my business. In fact, it’s exactly the opposite. These three tips are so simple, but many people overlook them. And it has had a 100% success rate for me. Here you go! Get involved in their work. Depending on the audience size of your virtual mentor, you may or may not be able to get a response from them on social media. But you dramatically increase your chances once you start doing business with them. If they have an [...]
