4 Questions to Ask to Strengthen Your Team

By |2020-05-08T15:46:10-04:00October 4th, 2016|Business, Faith-Based Leadership|

This past May, I attended Dave Ramsey’s EntreLeadership Summit, which I can’t say enough great things about. I learned so much, and it’s difficult to narrow down my favorite takeaways. But today, I’m going to try. I love our team – and if you’ve been here a while, I know you know why. Teeny, Suzy, Somer, and James all play critical roles in the work done in the swHw community. But when your team is stretched from North Carolina to Delaware, I would be lying if I said it didn’t create unique problems. Problems that I’m grateful for. Problems that I believe many people would wish to have for themselves. But still, problems that need to be dealt with. One thing I’ve learned with having a largely remote team is that there’s no such thing as over-communication. We have established lots of fantastic tools to help us be able to communicate with one another, despite working at different times in different locations. But because we don’t get to see one another everyday, because we sometimes rely on email and text for a few days before we can connect on the phone or on a web meeting, it’s not hard [...]

3 Tips to Remain the Purpose Police of Your Life

By |2020-05-08T15:46:28-04:00September 22nd, 2016|Business, Faith, Faith-Based Leadership|

Purpose. In business, it’s the word that separates the innovators from the imitators. It’s what differentiates between top-performing businesses and average-producing businesses. (Bonus tip: Couple being purpose-driven with integrity over a decade in the same space, and you’ll outdo 90% of the competition in your market.) So, in a world that seems to emphasize profitability and popularity, how do we ensure purpose stays the focus for our lives? Here are my top 3 tips: Pray. “But I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might show you My power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth” (Exodus 9:16). Attempting to walk in purpose without consulting our Purpose-Giver is about as irresponsible as it gets. God gave us our purpose, so we must continually be growing in our personal relationship with Him to continue to grow in purpose. One of the most important things I stress with the women I mentor is how prayer is a productive use of our time. Don’t make it an afterthought, but a daily non-negotiable. Even if you’re just getting started in business or ministry, little is much in the hands of God. Prayer is our regular exercise [...]

3 Verses to Inspire Your Customer Interaction

By |2020-05-08T15:46:53-04:00September 8th, 2016|Faith, Faith-Based Leadership|

In my last blog, I talked about how dealing with customers could be an opportunity for them to see the love of God. It’s a great chance to share His love and offer grace and mercy. I know firsthand that sometimes interacting with customers can be challenging, and quite frankly, exhausting. On days when I don’t feel like being sweet or offering grace and mercy, I go to God’s Word. There are so many wonderful scripture verses that teach us about interacting with others. And this totally relates to our customers. Here are 3 of those verses: Verse #1: 23 Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ. [Colossians 3:23-24] I need to be reminded daily that I work for the Lord. My allegiance is to Him. Everything I do should be a reflection of Him. Every email I send should be covered in grace and mercy because that’s what we’ve been given from Him. We must always remember that we work to please an audience of one; the One. Verse #2: Now that I, your [...]

Are You a Social Media Thief?

By |2020-05-08T15:47:20-04:00August 18th, 2016|Business, Faith, Faith-Based Leadership|

As a entrepreneur in the creative space and as an author, plagiarism is something I deal with on a daily basis. Yes, even though 98% of what I put out there would have to be stolen by another person who claims Christ, it’s still an issue. Now, I refuse to live my life in a way that seeks to chase down every person who steals my ideas, words or creative work, so this is my heartfelt attempt to speak out against plagiarism as a whole from a Biblical perspective. But first, what exactly is plagiarism? Well, it used to be simply a copyright violation. Before the Internet, Pinterest and social media, it was much more difficult to plagiarize because before you could publish something, there were copyright filters to ensure plagiarism didn’t happen. But you don’t have to have a publisher to mass produce your thoughts anymore. All you need are a few social media accounts and fancy apps on your phone to steal someone else’s work and in the minds of most, be “undetected.” And most don’t even think it’s wrong. Almost daily on my clothing line’s social media page, someone will tag their friend in one of [...]

Entitlement vs. Empowerment

By |2020-05-08T15:47:27-04:00August 11th, 2016|Faith-Based Leadership|

Time for a gut check. Starting with myself. In today's culture, we often walk a very fine line between entitlement and empowerment. Between what we think is owed to us and what we treasure as a gift of grace. Between confidence and cockiness. Between a spirit of me first and a spirit of others first. Take for example, God's grace for us exemplified through the death of His Son, Jesus Christ, on the cross. If at any point we think we deserve His death and resurrection, deserve His forgiveness and grace, or deserve an eternity spent with Him, we miss the point of grace completely. There's nothing we have ever done or ever could do to become more worthy or deserving of His great love and sacrifice for us. BUT, this does not mean we walk with slumped shoulders or our heads down towards the ground. It actually means quite the opposite for us. When we truly start to let the truth of God's great love for us sink in, we can't help but walk a little taller and smile a little bigger. Because we know that our identity, purpose, and value rest in HIM. Not ourselves. The weight [...]
