Top 3 Factors to Consider in Selecting a Business Mentor

By |2020-05-08T15:41:38-04:00December 15th, 2016|Business|

It’s no secret we are passionate about mentoring around here. God created us to be better together, and we love the spirit of abundance when people are willing to teach from what they’ve learned and experienced to help others. So if your business or ministry is at a point where you need to learn more in a certain area and you’re considering hiring a business mentor, congratulations! That’s a really exciting step. But if it’s not the right mentor, that relationship could end up being more of a burden than a blessing. So to help you in your process, here are the top three factors I’ve found most helpful in selecting the best business mentors: What are their values/priorities? Bottom line: The best business mentors won’t just make your business better; they’ll make the scope of your life better. Because of this, your values and priorities should look very similar to that of your business mentor. Since all of my businesses center around ministry, it’s critical for me to have someone who is publicly unapologetic about their faith in Christ. I also need someone who understands that if I have to choose between family and business, I will choose [...]

swHw stories: The Giving Manger

By |2020-05-08T15:43:11-04:00December 1st, 2016|Business, Family|

At swHw, we love introducing you to incredible women who are using their gifts, talents and abilities for God's glory. Last year, I met Allison, and I instantly adored her and her vision in creating the Christmas tradition, The Giving Manger. Read this blog from her below, and make sure you use our discount code below if you decide to bring this Christ-centered tradition into your home this year. Christmas is one of our favorite holidays, filled with fun and festive traditions. But we often felt like the true meaning of Christmas and the spirit of giving was getting lost in the craziness.  We wanted to find a fun and interactive way to help our kids and families focus and learn about the true meaning of Christmas. A trip down memory landereminded me of a tradition a childhood friend of mine did in her home.  They had a simple wooden manger with a bundle of straw next to it.  I remember asking her what it was for. "To give gifts of service back to Christ," she said. That was it. Just a simple tradition that I didn't forget. I knew this memory was the answer to my prayers, and  [...]

5 Things You Should Pray for Your Business

By |2020-05-08T15:43:26-04:00November 22nd, 2016|Business, Faith, Faith-Based Leadership|

Entrepreneurship is both an incredible tool that God can use for His kingdom and also fertile ground for us to point people to our own kingdom. Because of that, praying for your business and how you will handle that endeavor should be at the top of our to-do list. I know I've heard Michelle say, prayer is the single most important factor to running a business ,and I wholeheartedly agree, so today I'm sharing 5 things you can be praying for your business. 1. TO HAVE AN UNDERSTANDING OF OWNERSHIP First and foremost, we must pray that we understand our role in our business. Though the world sees us as the owner, we must give that role to God. I think if this was a one-time signing over of your business to God, it'd be simple, BUT each day, we are faced with the opportunity to take control and call the shots. Part of praying for understanding of ownership in close communion with God (through prayer, studying His Word and other spiritual disciplines) so when decisions need to be made, we are operating out of the wisdom God gives and not our own strength. It's also praying that God [...]

Giving God Our Little To Do Much

By |2020-05-08T15:43:42-04:00November 10th, 2016|Business, Family|

One of my favorite things to do is read stories in the Bible that I remember from when I was a kid. Growing up in church as a pastor’s kid, I’ve seen my share of Bible stories acted out, put on a felt board, or shared from a puppet. But don’t be fooled. While they are incredible stories that can captivate kids & make Jesus real to them, it’s also solid truth from God’s Word. And no matter how many felt board or puppet versions I’ve seen, God always manages to teach me something new. For the last week, I’ve been studying the Feeding of the 5,000. Granted, it’s one of my favorites, but it’s also one of the stories that made it into all 4 Gospel accounts – Matthew 14:13-21; Mark 6:30-44; Luke 9:10-17, and John 6:1-14. (If God made a story appear in the Bible 4 times, it just might be important!) Here are my top takeaways during this season as a young mother: (Warning: Each of these may become their own blogs in the next few weeks.) People are watching how we respond during hard times. John the Baptist was Jesus’ cousin. He was the one who baptized Jesus. [...]
