Advent: A Reminder He Came and He Will Return

By |2021-12-07T15:25:14-05:00December 12th, 2021|Uncategorized|

If you've been following our two year Bible reading plan, when you first looked at December, you may have wondered how Revelation would fit into Advent -- and truthfully, Advent is not only a season where we remember how Jesus came but serves as our reminder that He is coming again! It has been really, really beautiful. Here are a few verses you can reflect on as we remember His birth and wait with anticipation for His return: "And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to Myself, that where I am you may be also." - JOHN 14:3 They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen Him go into heaven.” - ACTS 1:10-11 "For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us [...]

Gospel Community: What It Is and Why It Matters Right Now

By |2021-11-08T14:03:58-05:00November 8th, 2021|Uncategorized|

How can the same generation that is more connected than any previous generation also experience more loneliness? We're certainly not the first to make this observation. You've probably said something similar at some point. But the real question is: why does this observation not prompt us to action? It's a big problem, and it's worth solving -- especially as believers. Have you ever thought about how God's Word tells us that love and unity are the two traits that will both identify us as His disciples (John 13:34-35) and identify Jesus as God's Son (John 17:23)? Love and unity are the evangelism strategy God has given us to reach a lost world - to accomplish the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20). And here's what love and unity have in common: neither of them can be done by one person alone. We need one another to pull this off. So in a world that is becoming increasingly autonomous and increasingly lonely, why are we as Christians not taking God's command for gospel community more seriously? Imagine what would happen if the church became the place people who were lonely could come and feel assured they were entering a place where they [...]

Why We’re Excited About Social Media Again

By |2021-10-27T16:45:49-04:00October 29th, 2021|Uncategorized|

I've never actually hated social media. Social media has allowed me to meet people who are now real life friends. So whenever I get frustrated with it, I usually start seeing faces (some of yours reading this right now!), and I remember why it's worth showing up. But that doesn't change that the requirements for showing up have drastically changed in the last five years. The introduction of stories at minimum doubled the amount of "expected" content for creators. Add in LIVE video, IGTV, and Reels -- and social media done "well" is currently a full-time job. But it's not just the content. The part we actually look forward to is having conversations with you. And we've found that social media is not really the best place for conversations anymore. (Sorry, Zuck!) But between too many things vying for your attention and the fact that SWHW women are pretty good about managing the amount of time you spend online anyway, it's just not. So how do we still show up to meet women who need this message and share reminders that we all need -- while freeing up more time and energy to actually do the work God has [...]
