With All My Mind

A little over a year ago, I was taking my dad back to the airport after a long visit. While he was here, he was able to have a peek into my life. He got to see the pace I was moving at, along with the responsibilities I carried. No one else has ever really gotten to see that. My girls go to school, Kent goes to work, and I work from our home. I had a team for each business, but there was no crossover, so they didn’t know what I was doing outside of my work with them. I knew I was “busy,” but I had gotten use to it. I thought it was okay. I knew I was tired. I knew I was always pushing deadlines, and it was getting harder to remember things, but I chalked that up to the struggles of running multiple businesses. I am an entrepreneur, isn’t this how it’s supposed to be? My dad was so sweet. He never said anything negative about my work, but I knew he was concerned for me. So in the car on the way to the airport, somehow, this came up: my schedule, my full [...]

You Will Have Trouble

By |2020-05-08T13:28:15-04:00January 9th, 2018|Business, Faith, Family|

“In this world, you will have trouble…” I realize that there is hope within this verse, (see John 16:33 for context) and that our hope is Jesus, but I just couldn’t keep from pondering these seven words: “…In this world, you will have trouble…” When some face the “troubles” of this world, they crumble. Some doubt their faith, others run, and others try to quit. But no matter your walk in life, no one is exempt from this fact: we will all encounter trouble. The sooner we embrace the fact that we are all either walking through or toward a hardship, the sooner we can move on to the good news. That’s right. The verse doesn’t end there. Because Jesus defeated death on the cross for you and me, when we walk through life’s hardships, we can be encouraged that this is not the end, but merely a page in the story of our lives that God is writing. Personally, this is why I enjoy reading biographies so much. I’ve never read one where great pain or trouble didn’t have a significant role in shaping their story. For example, Dave Ramsey went broke before he decided to make changes [...]

The Right Questions to Ask When You Miss the Goal

By |2020-05-08T13:28:35-04:00December 7th, 2017|Branding, Business, Faith|

Like many of you, I set goals for myself every year. I usually hit most of them, and celebrating those wins is so fun. But every year, there’s also at least one goal that gets missed. So if you’re here at the end of 2017, and all you can see is the inevitable failure of not reaching a goal you set for yourself almost a year ago, I’d like to give you four questions to ask so you can turn this failure into growth. (Fellow John Maxwell readers know this concept of “failing forward” well!) But before we dig in, can I just take a second to remind you of one of my favorite Dave Ramsey truth bombs? “Success is just a pile of failure that you are standing on.” Failure is a package deal with winning. You won’t win every time. Every idea won’t be your best. The timing won’t always be right. Something unexpected will derail your best efforts. But the only way you really lose…is if you fail to learn from your mistakes. If you pretend it never happened. Or if you give up because it didn’t work on your first try. So here are the [...]

End the Glam, Guide the Grind, Give God the Glory

By |2020-05-08T13:36:32-04:00November 9th, 2017|Branding, Business, Faith, Faith-Based Leadership|

“Buy followers from us for your social media account! Make everyone else think they’re missing out.” “Don’t re-invent the wheel! Just duplicate this process, and you’ll bring in money every month.” “With us, you set flexible work hours. Work when you want, where you want, and still score a paycheck!” That’s the world we live in, right? Everywhere you turn, someone is trying to teach you how to make more money with less work. They hook you with a shortcut. And not just any shortcut. With just a few “easy” payments, you can bypass some of the hard trenches of business ownership. Or so they claim. Today, it’s time to get real. I’m tired of the false claims and cheap promises. Business ownership is not easy. And anyone who tells you that it is wants something from you more than they want something for you.  Is business ownership worth it? Yes. Would I trade what I do for any other job? Absolutely not. But it’s not easy. Business ownership is not fancy trips, cool websites, styled photoshoots, gaining “followers” and constant approval and affirmation. (Although, that’s easily the perception on social media!) But business ownership, especially if you’re here [...]

Let Your Kids Be a Part of Your Calling

By |2020-05-08T13:36:42-04:00October 17th, 2017|Business, Faith, Family|

As a part of the she works HIS way team, I’ve been anticipating the Narrow conference for a full year. We began planning for, praying over and talking about details long before a date was set. Our founder, Michelle, knew that this was a big part of the ministry’s future and we were all on board without hesitation. The weekend proved to be even more than we could have anticipated. I mean, you fill a room with women who love business, love to learn, and who are aching to serve Jesus well in it all, and you’ll just get to sit back and watch God move. I’m grateful for the images and content that is forever etched in my memory. Sometimes, God prepares your heart to hear something that you are totally not expecting to hear, and my momma heart is feeling so tender now in the best way. Mommas and future mommas, Somer Phoebus made this statement in her “Stop Doing List” session on Saturday, and I want you to hear it: “You don’t have to protect your children from your business.” She went on to explain that if you feel that God has called you to a [...]
