Leading in Love

By |2020-05-08T15:40:44-04:00February 9th, 2017|Faith, Family|

18 years, 2 kiddos (hundreds if you add in our student ministry kiddos), 10 homes, 5 states, 3 churches, and countless eye rolls, laughs, tears, and arguments over my driving. That’s how well I know the subject of this blog post: my husband, Kent. This may just be the most comfortable I’ve ever been writing a blog. When Michelle had the idea to celebrate “love month” by asking our team to write about the leadership traits we respect most in our spouses, I wasn't worried about figuring out what to share. But I was worried about figuring out how to sum it up in one short blog. I’ve got a pretty awesome man. My husband is one of the greatest leaders I know, but I was able to narrow it down to the three things I admire most about his leadership...and desire to work on for myself. He leads quietly. In fact, Kent leads so quietly that many don't even realize he is the one leading. I know some mistake his quiet leadership for weak leadership. I confess: I used to. But I was so wrong. Kent doesn't need a stage, or a podcast, or a title. He just [...]

When Productivity Meets Efficiency

By |2020-05-08T15:41:21-04:00January 5th, 2017|Business|

PRODUCTIVITY (n). - the quality, state, or fact of being able to generate, create, enhance, or bring forth goods and services EFFICIENCY (n.) - the state or quality of being efficient, or able to accomplish something with the least waste of time and effort; competency in performance. Did you know you can be super productive… but still not finish anything? Did you know you can be SUPER efficient…but still run out of time? Did you know if you figure out how to be both…you’ve hit the jackpot?! I have been running Productivity Academies consistently for the last 18 months. I have trained corporate teams, ministry teams, and a bunch of amazing, sweet swHw women! One thing I have noticed -- not every student comes into PA with a big mess of a life. I have several that, by most standards, have it pretty “together.” But they're still sinking. Why? Because they are missing something: either they’re productive but not efficient ,or they’re efficient but not productive. So…how do you know which category you’re in? Let’s find out. Being productive means you are probably the kind of person who is always creating. You may be creating a product, a service, [...]

Focused Four

By |2020-05-08T15:43:49-04:00November 8th, 2016|Business, Family|

Many of us have heard about the Power Hour method - No matter how busy you are, schedule your day in such a way that you can pause life and focus all of your attention into a 60 minute block of hardcore, laser focused, WORK. It’s an awesome option for those of you that are juggling mommy-hood with working or running your own business. Or maybe for those of you still at a day job but working diligently to advance a side business. However, studies show that at the 60-minute mark most people’s brain is just getting warmed up. I don’t know about you but when I get into a groove, I hate being interrupted! My mind is similar to my minivan’s engine on a super cold day. It’s slow and loud when I start it up, but the longer it runs, the fast and smoother it runs! (Minivan moms unite!) So is it possible? Is there any chance at all you could work in 4-hour blocks? It’s worth looking into. For those of you that have the ability to set your own schedule, here are a few tips on how I would do it… better yet, how I [...]

You Can’t or You Won’t?

By |2020-05-08T15:44:19-04:00October 25th, 2016|Faith, Faith-Based Leadership|

You can’t… or you won’t??? Ouch. You already know what’s coming don't ya? I know.  This phrase stepped on my toes big time last Sunday when I heard it asked. After many conversations over the past few months, I am learning one of the biggest downfalls we have as believers is that we haven’t scratched the surface to comprehending the magnificent power we have access to through God. His POWER at work in us can do FAR MORE than we could ever hope or imagine. - Ephesians 3:20 Yet we come back to this “I can’t” phrase before we even give God a chance. I can’t teach a Bible study, I can’t pray more, I can’t travel that far to minister to the lost, I can’t share the gospel with her, I can’t forgive them, I can’t give God my money, my time, my talent, etc. I can’t. I can’t. I can’t. But maybe if we were really honest with ourselves, we would admit, we just won’t. Because if you call yourself a Christ follower, you’ve given up the right to use the words “I can’t” when it comes to what God is calling you to do. I love [...]
