ThanksLIVING Workbook

By |2020-05-08T15:53:21-04:00October 28th, 2015|Faith, Family|

I'm so grateful you've chosen to take this gratitude journey with us to center our hearts on gratitude throughout the month of November. As I was praying a few weeks ago, God started pressing on my heart not to just give gratitude, but to LIVE gratitude. So, the ThanksLIVING Workbook was born. At first, I was just creating it for my personal reflection...but then I realized how it might be helpful for others who like me, don't want to miss the real reason for holidays. If we're honest, it's easy to get lost in the commercialization this world has created. I feel like in my lifetime, I've seen the shift from businesses being closed on Thanksgiving to businesses remaining open, starting "Black Friday" deals as early as Wednesday to "edge out the competition." Don't get me wrong: I love a good deal. But those deals aren't worth it if they distract us from being grateful for everything we already have. So I hope between the gratitude journaling, Scripture reflections, ThanksLIVING Challenge, and quotes sprouted throughout, you'll find blessing that comes with contentment. I hope you'll use the #sheworksHisway and #ThanksLIVINGWorkbook hashtags on social media when you post, so our team can see how God [...]

What God Says Goes

By |2020-05-08T15:53:45-04:00October 25th, 2015|Faith|

"For the Lord gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding." - Proverbs 2:6 Think about the last time you found yourself in a tough situation. You were faced with multiple options, and you just wished someone could come alongside you and decide for you. I bet you probably see where I'm going with this... But the truth is when we desperately need wisdom, we often don't turn to God first. We turn to Him more as a last resort than our first response. We waste time trying to figure it out on our own, finally lay down our pride, and come to Him. I don't think this will be new information for you...but when was the last time you thought about the fact that God knows EVERYTHING? That's right. Everything. Nothing surprises Him. Matthew 10:29-30 says, "Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered." He not only knows about everything around you, but He knows everything about you. He knows how many hairs you. Why would we ever trust our limited understanding when we can [...]

How to Preserve Your Life

By |2020-05-08T15:53:49-04:00October 18th, 2015|Faith|

"Turn my heart toward your statues and not toward selfish gain. Turn my eyes away from worthless things; preserve my life according to Your Word." - Psalm 119:36-37 I've known people earning enough money to buy anything they want and do anything they desire. Accolades and success from earthly sources are continuously pouring in. But you know what else? If they don't have Jesus, they're still empty. They're still searching. Their heart still isn't satisfied. Think about it. I'm not an artist, but if I was, you better believe I would sign my name to my artwork. If I write a book, my name will go on the jacket. If we work to create something, we will put something on it to make sure people know its source, right? Don't you think God did the same thing when He created each of us? Don't you think He didn't put something inside each one of us that will only be satisfied when our Creator is recognized? And no matter what else we try to fill it with, nothing else will satisfy? Pursuing selfish gain & worthless things will still leave us empty. Searching. Craving. Restless. Unsatisfied. Restless. Useless. Insignificant. Pursuing God's [...]

The Treasure & Heart Connection

By |2020-05-08T15:53:54-04:00October 11th, 2015|Faith|

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." - Matthew 6:19-21 Where our treasure is, there are your heart will be also. Treasure is "what we greatly value and highly prize." The majority of us would say that we "value" our walk with Christ, but just simply based on our time & care, let's do a little comparison between Jesus & our phones. What do I reference more throughout the day - God's Word or my phone? If I left my house without my phone, would I turn around to go get it? But do I ever leave my house unaware that I'm not truly taking Jesus with me? Do I spend more time meditating on God's promises or scrolling social media? Do I pray more than I post? Do I recharge my phone more than I recharge my soul? Do I feel more satisfaction with "likes" and "hearts" than I [...]

Ditching the “You Owe Me” Mentality

By |2020-05-08T15:53:59-04:00October 4th, 2015|Faith|

I've read lots of definitions of humility, but John Piper's is one of my favorites. He says, "Humility is the exact opposite of the "You owe me," mentality. Think about the application of this verse with this one mindset shift: "Others don't owe me. I owe them." I owe them grace. I owe them love. I owe them service. I owe them kindness. I owe them gentleness. I owe them respect.   Our world has an entitlement problem. Too often, we get wrapped up in the, "What's in it for me?" question instead of asking, "How can I give in abundance what has been given to me by God?" As for selfish ambition, we'll be digging into this soon in the membership portal, but for now, let's just leave it at this: We can recognize selfish ambition in our hearts when feel jealousy over what He's doing through someone else vs. praising Him for Kingdom results. As we memorize this verse this week, use the prayer guide below to specifically lift up how God might ask us to live out these verses in our lives. Prayer Guide: Sunday: Jesus (How would God have me to sacrificially use my talents for His [...]
