Paul often wrote letters to the churches he helped start, but Philippians is unique in that it’s the only letter he wrote that has far more encouragement than it does correction. The reminders Paul gave the church at Philippi are the same reminders we need today as we aim for spiritual maturity and to live a life of joyful endurance. Endurance often comes with a mindset of just putting your head down and getting through it, but through Jesus, our Heavenly Father has provided us a way to joyfully endure until we are with Him for eternity – even now. If you crave more joy, Philippians provides a road map to help you get there.

People don’t talk about meaningless things when they know their time is short – and that’s the lens we get to read 2 Timothy. Knowing his death was inevitable, Paul wrote his final letter to Timothy, a pastor who was like his spiritual son. It's hard to imagine that behind his words that are full of faith, confident hope and unwavering endurance, is a man who was cold, lonely and awaiting execution. These four short chapters are saturated in truth, encouragement, practical theology, and personal instruction: the foundation of the gospel, the importance of sound doctrine, a warning about false teachers, the necessity of gospel community, examples of what to do and what not to do, and requirements for being a faithful disciple in a broken world. In 2 Timothy, Paul both addresses everything that really matters and intentionally ignores everything that does not.

Acts tells of the acts or the actions of the apostles as they were led by the Holy Spirit after Jesus ascended into heaven. It tells the story of the explosive growth of the early church and the expansion of the gospel. It serves as the bridge between the gospels of Jesus and the Epistles (Letters) to the churches that follow. Acts stands for progress and movement. The same Holy Spirit that was alive and active then is alive and active now. The same mission that began then is the same mission every believer is still part of now.

Ecclesiastes is frequently described as pessimistic, cynical, gloomy, and downright depressing. I see it differently, and I hope you will too. This book is Solomon's desperate plea to proclaim the goodness, the fullness, and the satisfaction that is only found in God. Solomon’s tried it all, been it all, and had it all. He knows first-hand that everything the world offers us is a counterfeit offer of what God has already given us.  Ecclesiastes exposes the world’s relentless cycle of empty promises, but it’s not without hope. Quite the opposite actually. Solomon finally realizes the difference between the temporary and the eternal. Ecclesiastes is his best attempt to give us wisdom to live for heaven while on earth.
